Showcase places club players with college stars
The best players in club soccer will once again stand shoulder to shoulder with their college heroes this spring.
When Twin City Soccer hosts its two hallmark events, teams at all levels will strut their talent on the biggest stage.
The action kicks off with the Twin City Friendlies Boys Showcase, an event that will include Atlantic Coast Conference men’s programs on March 26-27.
Following up the boys’ showcase is the highly successful annual Southern Soccer Showcase, which will play out April 9-10.
It all unfolds at BB&T Soccer Park in Advance, North Carolina, where the likes of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Duke, Virginia Tech, NC State and much of the ACC programs will be on hand for an event that melds club and college like few can.
Club teams from all over the U.S. will compete simultaneously, sharing the facility with teams from the top collegiate conference in the country.
The club divisions include U15 through U19 for a competitive field that will give the college coaches a front row view of prospective talent.
“It’s really a great atmosphere,” said Tournament Director Greg Snipes. “On the girls’ side, for example, you have (Wake Forest coach) Tony da Luz, (North Carolina coach) Anson Dorrance, (Duke coach) Robbie Church and (Virginia coach) Steve Swanson standing together watching club games. Then when the colleges play, you see the fields lines with players watching them compete. It’s really a great showcase for both levels.”
Coaching clinics will also give the young players and parents the opportunity to learn and partake in the college experience during an action-packed two days.
Both the college and club competition will be stacked as the club side has invited international clubs this year, while the college field will feature many programs outside the ACC like: UNC Greensboro and Charlotte.
It’s a rare assembly of elite soccer on all levels and an event that shouldn’t be missed.
