Academy Recap: Caps, Sounders split
It wasn’t a complete break over the weekend for the Development Academy, as a small cluster of clubs played through the Easter holidays.
In fact, one of the more prestigious matchups took place, as Seattle Sounders U16 and U18 squads traveled up to Vancouver to play a pair against the Whitecaps.
A second half tally by the Whitecaps was the only goal from the U18 matchup, as the hosts won 1-0. Vancouver jumped out to a similar one-goal lead in the first half of the U16 matchup, before the Sounders came roaring back. Seattle’s Ryan Schaefer tied the scoring, and a Victor Mansaray brace provided a 3-1 margin of win.
East Conference
The strong 2012-13 campaign for PDA continued with yet another successful road trip to Richmond to face the Strikers. Goals from Angel Espana and Alec Neumann led the U18s to a 2-0 victory, while Noah Snyder grabbed a 48th minute goal to win 1-0 and claim all six points.
Richmond’s other DA club was also in action, hitting the road, as the Kickers traveled up to play FC Delco. It was a struggle for the visitors, as two goals in the first 12 minutes led the U18s to a 4-0 win, and two goals from Matthew Sullivan keyed the U16s to a 3-0 victory.
A goal from Tanner Vosvick proved to be the winner for Baltimore Bays Chelsea in a 1-0 defeat of NJSA 04. It was the same story in the U16 game – Connor Smith picking up the winning goal for the Bays.
