Academy Recap: Red-hot offense
The Development Academy was buzzing over the weekend with games all across the country. Some of the highlights include a top player moving up from U16 to U18 and scoring a hat trick, the top scorer in the U18 age division leading his team to the top of the division, and MLS academies taking over in the standings.
West
It was a big weekend for Real So Cal with games against LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake AZ on the slate. Real So Cal U18 managed to nab three points from the two games with a 2-1 win over Galaxy on Saturday, but lost 4-0 to RSL on Sunday. Real So Cal relied on late goals from Colin Hyatt and Jorge Miranda to snag the win against Galaxy. Christian Chavez scored for LA Galaxy. RSL put a damper on the weekend though, as Sebastian Saucedo scored three goals in his RSL U18 debut on the season and the division leaders rolled to the win. Jose Hernandez scored the other goal. Real So Cal remains in third place in the division and is five points off LA Galaxy for second with a game in hand.
In the U14 age group, Real So Cal gave LA Galaxy its third loss of the season on Saturday with a 2-0 result. Jason Manning scored both goals to push his season tally up to 18. Galaxy beat Real So Cal earlier this season, which marked the only loss on the year for Real.
In Seattle, it was a battle of the Northwest Division over the weekend as De Anza Force and Santa Cruz Breakers descended on the great state of Washington. Seattle Sounders remained in the top spot in both the U16 and U18 age groups thanks to 10 points from the four games. Duncan McCormick scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over De Anza Force on Saturday. Satoshi Chaffin scored four goals on Sunday for the Sounders U18 in an 8-2 win over the Breakers. Ryan Schaefer, Tosh Samkange, and Diego Silvas scored for the Sounders U16 in a 3-0 win over Breakers. Sounders U16 played to a 0-0 draw against De Anza Force.

Central
Crew Soccer Academy Wolves U16 climbed back into the top spot in the Mid-America Division over the weekend with a 2-0 win against Internationals. Giuseppe Barone and Bryan Prudil scored for CSA Wolves, which is 10-3-5 on the season. CSA Wolves also won in the U18 fixture with a 3-1 result. Ahinga Selemani scored all three goals in the first 20 minutes and Wolves cruised to victory.
Chicago Fire holds the top spot in the U18 bracket for the Mid-America Division and extended that advantage over the weekend with a 4-0 win over Sockers FC. Shannon Seymour scored twice while Jeffrey Farina and Collin Fernandez each added a goal in the first half.
FC Dallas continued to dominate the competition in the Frontier Division. FC Dallas beat Texas Rush 4-0 in the U18 clash and 2-0 in the U16 fixture on Saturday. Caleb Young and Philip Ponder scored for Dallas in the U16 win. The MLS academy is in first place in both age groups in that division.
East
Carolina Rapids U18 regained the top spot in the Southeast Division with a 5-1 win over South Carolina United Battery Academy on Sunday. David Lozano scored his 16th and 17th goals of the season in the win for the Rapids affiliate. Tanner Roberts also added his 20th goal of the campaign to the tally. Roberts leads the Development Academy in goals scored this season. The two teams battled to a 1-1 draw in the U16 fixture. Benjamin Amon and Curren Page scored the goals for their respective academies.
PA Classics U16 defeated Continental FC Delco 3-1 on Saturday and returned to the top spot in the Atlantic Division. Jonathan Polan, Robert Pozesky, and Connor Rathsam all scored for Classics in the victory. Classics will face a big challenge against PDA on Saturday, which could decide who wins the division.
