With a win over Total Futbol Academy on Sunday, Albion SC San Diego 04 wrapped up the top spot in the Southwest Division for the inaugural season of MLS Next, Major League Soccer’s boys youth soccer league. The first place finish in the division earns Albion SC a spot in the playoffs later this month in Texas.
The schedule and brackets for that event re still to be determined but the single-elimination format will make for a quite a challenge in the scorching Texas heat.
Albion SC was not the only team to seal up a spot in the playoffs over the weekend. Shattuck Saint Mary’s earned a tie for the top spot in the Mid-America conference after earning a 2-2 draw against Crew SC Academy. Orlando City had a convincing 3-0 win over Inter Miami to seal up the top spot in the Southeast Conference.
