Dallas Cup Championship recaps
The whirlwind week of soccer in the Dallas area wrapped up on Sunday, as a total of eight age groups handed out silverware. Both domestic and international clubs triumphed during the latest edition of the competition.
Below is a brief recap of the winners of each age group.
U13
Prepa Tec Monterrey captured the crown at the youngest age group, defeating TSC Hurricane by a 2-0 score. Monterrey took a 1-0 lead in stoppage time of the first half, and tacked on a 66th minute goal from Alexis Oviedo, as the Mexican side held on for the win.
U14
Another Mexican side triumphed, as Queretaro FC came from behind to defeat FC Dallas U13s by a 3-2 score line. It was a dream start for the home side, as Justin Che put FCD up 1-0 thanks to a seventh minute goal. Queretaro roared to life in the second half, scoring three goals after the break from Juan Robles, David Rodriguez and Miguel Delgado. FC Dallas added a consolation in the dying minutes, but Queretaro held on for the first of two titles at Dallas Cup.
U15
In a California-Japan clash, Maebashi FC came out on top against California club power FC Golden State. Goals from Suiju Takeuchi and Kenta Igarashi provided the margin of victory, as FC Golden State finished with 10-men after picking up a red card in the first half.
U16
This age group provided a rare site: a meeting between two U.S.-based sides in the championship. FC Dallas had an easy time defeating FC Boulder, scoring in the game’s first seven minutes on the way to a 5-0 victory. Luis Pacheco, Jaden Servania, Jose Bonilla and Tanner Tessman accounted for the scoring.
U17
A Sunday USA-Mexico meeting featured Queretaro FC and Santa Clara Sporting (California), with the Mexican side winning its second age group of the weekend. Second half goals from Jose Hernandez and Ramon Sanchez were enough as the Liga MX youth side managed the victory.
U18
Two East Coast sides enjoyed a successful week at this age group, as Cedar Stars Academy – Newark and Maryland’s Baltimore Celtic SC battled for the U18 crown. Celio Martin helped engineer the 5-1 victory, scoring twice and assisting on another as Cedar Stars offense carried the day.
U19
The lone age group that generated an all-international final, Knowsley Youth and Liverpool FC Foundation teams clashed with a championship on the line. It yielded one of the closes finals of the tournament, as two goals from Liverpool FC Foundation’s Jack Hazlehurst provided just enough offense in a 2-1 win.
U19 Super Group
With a 2-1 victory over Monterrey, FC Dallas became the first MLS Academy side to win the Super Group title and the first U.S. team since the Dallas Texans won in 2006. They snatched it with a late winner through Arturo Rodriguez, as he scored an 89th minute goal to seal the win for FCD. Paxton Pomykal opened the scoring with a first half strike that was canceled out just seven minutes before the winner through Monterrey captain Erick Amaro.
