Here’s a look at some of this weekend’s action:
Saturday Morning
The event started off with a bang on Saturday morning, with top-25 sides Eclipse Select Soccer Club and Real Colorado matching up. After the Eclipse held most of the early chances, against the run of play, Real Colorado’s Megan Rumbold did well to hold off her Eclipse defender and score from a tough angle to give Colorado a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Brynn Miller anchored a solid midfield for the Eclipse, who had trouble breaking down Real Colorado in the final third.
Teaggan Ilela and Shae Holmes also had big games for Real, who held off a feisty Eclipse 3-1 in the most anticipated of the three early games.
Mikayla Hughes had a highlight-reel volley goal for Minnesota Thunder Academy as they cruised to a 4-0 win over the Utah Avalanche. Adrienne Tarver flashed a big leg with several big shots and good passing ability for Minnesota as well.
Rounding out the opening three matches of the weekend, the Colorado Rush eventually broke down an aggressive Wisconsin Eclipse side 3-0. The Rush got on the scoreboard first when Theresa Boade finished a great team goal set up by impressive passing from Amanda Porter, Sage DiGiulio and Civana Kuhlmann.
Saturday Afternoon
No top-25 teams featured here, but Sporting Blue Valley gave the Colorado Rush all they could handle in a 2-1 squeaker of a victory for the favorites. Sporting ‘keeper Alexa Palacio made a great tip save off the crossbar and Shelby Christopherson and Abigail Walker were solid at center back for Sporting, but two early Colorado goals proved to be enough for the victory for the heavy favorites.
Kuhlmann and Rebekah Burton had several good opportunities for the Rush as well.
The Colorado Storm scored early and often en route to a big 7-0 win over Minnesota, with three goals in the game’s first ten minutes quickly deciding the outcome. Shanna Trott impressed along the wing for the Storm and Madeline Alhamra, Elisabeth Gehraghty and Emily Langenderfer also stood out for Colorado.
Brooke Sosa and Brandi Bain had good games for Real Colorado in a showdown with Wisconsin Eclipse, and Real goalkeeper Rylee Atteberry showed a strong presence in the box for Colorado as well to make several big stops.
Camille Davre made several tough tackles in the heart of Wisconsin’s midfield.
Eclipse Select downed Utah, although the Avalanche was able to keep it scoreless into the select half.
Sunday Morning
The big game matched up Eclipse Select and Colorado Storm, and the Storm were able to grind out a 3-1 win thanks to two late goals.
Victories from Wisconsin Eclipse, Real Colorado and Colorado Rush rounded out a fine weekend of competition in Commerce City.
