ECNL Preview: Moving forward
With Halloween on Friday this year, there is a very high likelihood that every club soccer game on Saturday starts very slowly. Yet, there are still plenty of games on the schedule for this weekend. Take a gander at a preview of some of the top games in the ECNL for the first weekend of November.
U14
FC Stars of Massachusetts hits the road to take on Connecticut FC and FSA FC this weekend. FC Stars are 7-0-2 at this early stage thanks to a potent offence that has already scored 31 goals. Connecticut FC and FSA are both playing their first games of the campaign.
Bethesda SC hits the road for a pair of games against Ohio Premier this weekend. Bethesda leads the Ohio Valley Division but has only played three games, which makes a two-game series pretty significant for conference standings. These are the only games of the month for the Maryland club.
GSA takes on Concorde Fire on Saturday in a battle between second and third in the Southeast Conference. GSA is 5-0-2 on the season thanks to the contributions of Macy Douglas (4 goals, 1 assist), Kristi Jones (4 goals, 4 assists), and Lillian Babalola (2 goals, 4 assists).
U15
Minnesota Thunder is trying to snag its first win of the season this weekend during a two-game home series against Vardar. Thunder is only in the early stages of the season and trying to climb up the conference standings with some points this weekend. Vardar’s attack has been difficult to slow down. Rachel Rasins and Gabriala Jodzis have combined for seven goals this season.
McLean Youth Soccer hosts Richmond United on Saturday in a battle between two of the three ECNL sides from the state of Virginia. McLean sits in second in the Chesapeake Division with a 4-2 record. Krisstina Toms leads the team in scoring with four goals to her name. The McLean defense will need to be sharp though. Paige Franks has been electric for Richmond this season with eight goals already.
The Southeast Conference is home for a showdown between two of the best in Georgia when Atlanta Fire hosts Concorde Fire on Sunday. Atlanta Fire is 5-3 on the season and looking to move up for fourth in the standings. Brooke Barrett leads the team in scoring with six goals. Atlanta Fire also hosts Birmingham United this weekend.
U16
St. Louis Scott Gallagher – Missouri takes on Sporting Blue Valley in a Midwest Conference tilt on Saturday. Kayleigh Stahlschmidt continues her red-hot start to the season with nine goals in nine games. Keelie Fothergill leads the Sporting Blue Valley attack with five goals and five assists so far this season.
Michigan Hawks travels to FC Wisconsin Eclipse for two games this weekend in Midwest Conference play. Hawks sit at the top of the standings with a 7-0-1 record. Goalkeepers Madison Clem and Jaimie Leas have only let in six goals this season.
Slammers FC heads to Las Vegas this weekend for games against Las Vegas Premier and Heat FC. Slammers are trying to keep hold of the top spot in the Southwest Conference as nearly every team in that conference is in action this weekend and the race at the top is tight.
U17
D’Feeters Soccer Club and Dallas Sting tangle this weekend ina Texas Conference showdown. Dallas Sting leads the conference with a 7-1-1 record. Dani Greenlee and Nicole Curry have logged seven shutouts this season between the two goalkeepers.
Strikers FC hosts SC Del Sol and Sereno Soccer Club this weekend, as the Arizona teams make the trip out to Southern California. Forwards Kennedy Smith and Darcy Weiser lead the Strikers in scored with 11 goals between the two.
U18
MVLA takes on San Juan Soccer Club on Saturday in a California Division matchup. MVLA is first in the division with a 5-1 record. U.S. U20 Women’s National Team defender Tegan McGrady leads the team in points with four goals and 10 assists.
