St. Louis was the site of not just the Girls Academy Talent ID Center, but also four title clashes over the weekend.
The 2021-22 GA season wrapped with four teams coming away with national championships. Storied clubs captured crowns on Saturday and Sunday.
In a clash at the youngest age group, two of the top GA teams squared off when Nationals Blue matched up against Tophat Gold. A Lily Jeakle strike opened the scoring, putting the Michigan side up early. Micayla Johnson, who won the Golden Boot for the tournament, added a second goal.
After Tophat got a goal back, making it 2-1 late in the game, Nationals took advantage. Jeakle, the Golden Ball winner, setup Johnson’s second and her team’s third goal. Hope Pierfelice kept the two-goal advantage at the end, while Sloane Popov, Maren Swan, Grace Battershell, Conamora Ndana and Danielle Wisser excelled at the back for Nationals.
It was a series of nailbiters at the U15 age group. Both TSJ FC Virginia and NEFC advanced to the national championship on the back of 1-0 wins in the semifinals, seeing off Lou Fusz and Cincinnati United respectively. Lilli Lubic's goal provided the winner in the semifinal. It was the same score line in the final, as a lone goal by Mya Townes led to a 1-0 victory for TSJ FC Virgina's talented 07 squad.
A Southern California side shined brightest in St. Louis in the U16 bracket. After besting Lonestar SC by a 3-1 score in the semifinals, Albion SC San Diego backed that up with a 2-0 win in the national championship against South Shore Select.
Aubrey Kulpa’s breakaway goal provided the winning margin in Oakwood SC’s Under-17 triumph over Florida United. It was enough for the Northeast side to come away with the crown, capping an excellent season.
