There is a standard that Hugo Perez maintains with the U14 Boys National Team, and it has nothing to do with results.
The former U.S. international has been more hands-on than any other coach in the U.S. Soccer Federation with his squad, and that is exactly what the Federation intended when he was hired to guide and sculpt the youngest age group the U.S. operates.
With camps nearly every other month, Perez has built a playing style that is impressively fast-paced for a team of such a tender age.
Last month, Perez and 21 players took the show on the road with a trip to Croatia for the first international games for the 1999 age group. U.S. ended the trip with wins over Croatia and Hungary after starting with a 2-1 loss to Slovenia.
