This weekend features the start of the 2024-25 MLS NEXT season.
The new campaign will look a bit different, with the MLS-run league shifting focus for its Pro Player Pathway. The MLS academy sides are placing an emphasis on the Under-16 (2009) and Under-18 (2007) age groups.
That does mean players at MLS Academies won’t be left in the lurch once the MLS NEXT Pro season comes to an end. It obviously has other ramifications for other age groups (specifically, the 2008s) that are yet to be fleshed out. Teams are also allowed to still roster and play up to five players born in 2006 as well.
With the new season kicking off, there are several players to look out for in the upcoming season. Here’s a look at some of the best to know in 2024-25.
