The TeamRank National Championship is a unique rankings setup that only includes team performance from the current season. It begins with events in August and ends with final events in July, at which point a new competition begins and the slate is again wiped clean. Each ranking is only for that August to July season.
On the national stage, not many Oregon teams have made a tremendous splash. But the Oregon Rush, who currently lead the Pacific Northwest TeamRank U17 Girls, are working hard to change that.
“No team from the Oregon area has ever won regionals,” said Head Coach John O’Sullivan. “This team has been there several times over the last four years, and have the talent to go far.”
Oregon Rush girls players.A group that is really close, these girls have been playing together since they were eight or nine years old. Therefore, Oregon Rush has been able to play a very confident style of soccer, coming from familiarity between the players.
“We try to pass the ball around, play with the feet or from behind when we can. We play a good mix, and try to never sit and defend,” said O’Sullivan.
This team has key players in every position on the field. Midfielder Allie Cummins is the engine of the team and is a proficient distributor of the ball. Alongside is Maryn Beutler who was a recent recipient of the Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year Award as junior.
In the front line is Kristen Parr, a very fast and technical forward. Meanwhile Hayley Estopare anchors the backline. She is the unsung hero and a very composed defender.
“I think the team unity, bond, and belief in themselves is one of our greatest assets,” O’Sullivan said. “When they play as a collective unit, they are hard to beat.”
With spring not too far away, Oregon Rush is concentrating on the Far West Regional League and the Oregon State Cup. Yet, the ultimate goal, the one that could separate it from any other team in the state, would be to win U.S. Youth Soccer regionals (and the TeamRank points bonanza that comes with it).
“They have the talent,” O’Sullivan said. “But it’s a combination of playing well, staying healthy, and a little bit of luck.”
Other clubs ranked in the girls TeamRank are U13 NW Nationals, U14 Crossfire Premier SC, U15 Cook Inlet SC, U16 Tualatin Hills SC, and U18 Washington Premier FC.
On the boys’ side the leaders are: U13 Crossfire Premier SC, U14 Cascade FC, U15 Cook Inlet SC, U16 Eastside FC, U17 Northern Lights SC, and U18 Spokane Shadow.
