Sporting KC signs Freeman to HG contract
Another youngster is trying his luck with an MLS Homegrown deal.
Sporting KC announced the addition of 15-year-old Tyler Freeman on Tuesday to a Homegrown contract, the 10th such signing in franchise history.
"This is an exciting day for Tyler Freeman, his family and for Sporting Kansas City," Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes said in a statement. "Our decision to sign Tyler demonstrates the investment we have made in our professional pathway, and it's great to see a young attacking player take a big step forward at our club. We look forward to helping him reach his potential, and we believe that he has an incredible environment, culture and support system around him that will propel his future in the direction of being a successful player at Sporting KC."
The No. 12 ranked prospect for the class of 2021, Freeman joined the Sporting KC Academy in 2014 at the age of 11, steadily climbing the ladder since then. He scored four goals in 19 games for the SKC U16/17 team during the 2017-18 season.
Freeman has experience with various U.S. youth national teams. He earned call-ups to various U14 BNTs in 2017, and was included in the U16 BNT trip to Italy and U17 MNT trip to Costa Rica this year.
