TDS Showcase Florida Boys Best XI:
GK Julian Carrillo, Miramar United Elite FC, 2018: Carrillo is a young keeper who has an incredible frame and understanding of the game. He is somewhat raw, but has an abundance of talent. Carrillo is a quality shot stopper who is able to reach any corner of the goal. He showed a good understanding of when to close down space and when to stay to his line. If Carrillo continues to work on his fundamentals and strength, he will be a quality keeper moving forward.
D Hernando Valencia-Parra, N/A, 2016: Valencia-Parra has great size and strength that will help him when he transitions to the college game. He is strong in the air and showed a great physical presence in the center of the park throughout the showcase. Valencia-Parra is good on the ball as well, showing a great ability to spot a forward pass and to hold the ball up when necessary.
D Nicolas Quiroga, Chicago Fire Juniors Florida, 2017: Quiroga is a quality defender who is confident in his touch and ability to pick a pass. When he plays the early ball, he can help his team start an offensive attack. Quiroga is strong in the air and gets good distance on his clearances. He provides smart angles to support his teammates and showed very good quickness on the defensive side of the ball.
D Ethan Grosam, Chicago Inferno, 2018: Grosam is a well-rounded outside back who consistently showed a good understanding of the game and great anticipation skills. He reads the flow of the game better than most. Grosam is strong in the tackle and is always willing to get stuck in. He consistently executed well under pressure and showed excellent potential to transition to the college game.
M Ryan Hargis, IMG Soccer Academy, 2019: Hargis was the surprise of the Florida Unsigned Showcase due to his age and size. The 2019 graduate bossed play throughout the small sided and full field games. He always wants the ball and has a wide array of tools in his bag. Hargis loves to play midfielders and forwards through balls, both in the air and on the ground. He completely controlled the run of play against opponents that were older and bigger than him. Hargis is absolutely one to watch for the future.
M Jack Gilliam, Chicago Fire Juniors Florida, 2016: Gilliam has the physical attributes to compete at any college level. He has good feet and a clean first touch, especially in tight spaces. Gilliam is strong in the air and can be a tool on set pieces when he fights for the ball. He moves well to open space for himself and teammates and is especially good in tight spaces. To round out his game, Gilliam also has a solid strike from distance in his arsenal.
M Carney Herard, Galaxy SC (IL), 2017: Herard is a rather tall player who has all around good size. He has great dribbling skills and is very quick on the ball. Herard is calm and confident under pressure; always seeming to find the right ball to alleviate pressure. If Herard continues to work on the physical/fitness side of the game, he will become a quality college level player in any division.
M Dominic Miller, Chicago Fire Juniors Florida, 2019: Miller is a ball handler in every sense: he has a clean first touch, can dribble through tight spaces, can play exact passes under pressure, and consistently receives the ball with the proper foot. He is good at finding pockets of dangerous space all across the field. Miller played a variety of positions including in the center of the pitch and on the wing during the full field scrimmages. As a young player, he is definitely one to watch moving forward.
M Nathaniel Nascimento, Naples Youth Soccer Club, 2017: Nascimento showed excellent feet throughout the Unsigned Showcase. He smartly used his dribbling skills to get out of tight spaces and has a keen eye for a forward pass. Nascimento has solid finishing skills but also showed a well-rounded game by getting back and defending well. If he becomes more vocal and demanding, Nascimento can become a quality college prospect in the 2017 class.
F Sebastian Horvath, West Pines FC, 2018: Horvath is a creative attacker who has a very clean first touch. He has great ability to run at defenders 1v1 and create chances for himself. Horvath’s finishing skills are still to be refined, but he is very creative and has an innate understanding of the flow of the game which allows him to get in to smart positions. He uses his body well and showed very good speed over 20 yards.
F Leo Herard, Galaxy SC (IL) 2018: Herard (the younger of the two brothers at the Florida Unsigned Showcase) is a versatile forward who is comfortable all across the pitch. He has excellent balls skills including dribbling, accurate short and long distance passing, and shooting. Herard is calm and cool under pressure, even when going up against bigger opponents. Herard is a young, raw talent but has a very high ceiling.
