TDS Seattle Combine: Girls Best XI
Talent was out in force for the TopDrawerSoccer combine in Seattle this summer. Here’s a look at our girls Best XI from the event.
Emberly Sevilla, Goalkeeper, Las Vegas Premier, 2018: Sevilla is the type of goalkeeper that coaches look for in the modern game. She is as comfortable with the ball at her feet as she is with it in her hands. She is comfortable on the ball and provides a good outlet for her defense to keep possession. She can improve on the softness of her hands, but has the skills to make it at the next level.
Rachel Bowler, Defender, Leahi SC, 2016: Bowler showed great understanding of the game and ability throughout the combine. She rarely gives up possession when playing out of the back and has a variety of passes in her arsenal. She works hard to be an option off the ball and to close down opposing attackers. She uses her quick feet to step to defenders and showed great work rate to get back to thwart attacks.
Delaney Watson, Defender, Northwest United FC (WA), 2017: Watson is a player who will do very well at the next level. She is confident and composed throughout the game and carries a huge presence on the pitch. Watson plays clean, accurate passes in pressure-filled situations. Watson is a leader on the back line who is an imposing figure both through her communication and physical play.
Emily Woods, Defender, Northwest United FC (WA), 2017: Woods is a smart player who understands the game very well. She showed good strength in keeping possession and winning 1v1 challenges. She is very mature under pressure and makes smart movements to provide options to alleviate pressure for her teammates. Her passing is crisp and accurate.
Sophia Braun, Midfielder, FC Portland Academy, 2018: Braun is a confident midfielder who is very good at playing one and two-touch soccer. She is good on the dribble which she uses to get out of tight spaces. Her quickness allows her to make space for herself and open up passing lanes for her team.
Jennifer Turnek, Midfielder, Northwest United FC (WA), 2017: Turnek is a quality player with a lot to offer. She can take up multiple roles in the midfield due to her clean first touch and confidence on the dribble. She has excellent awareness and makes solid decisions to keep possession. Turnek moves well to open space for teammates and close down space for the opposition.
Sabine Postma, Midfielder, FC Salmon Creek, 2017: Postma is best when the ball is at her feet. Her touch is clean and she is quick and dangerous on the dribble. Her agility and quickness can strike fear in any defender. Once she adds communication (demanding the ball) to her game, Postma will be a threat at any level.
Mckenna Ragen, Midfielder, Seattle United, 2019: Ragen showed composure beyond her years at the Seattle combine. She is confident on the ball, has very nice footwork, and makes excellent decisions. Ragen is very safe in possession, but also has an eye for a defense-splitting pass. She well to find space for herself and teammates. If she continues to progress over the next few years, she will become a quality collegiate talent.
Zia Makhathini, Forward, Heat FC, 2019: Makhathini is a very fast forward who is constantly a threat to get in behind the defensive line. She has a quick release on her shot which makes it difficult to defend. Her change of direction is also very quick which she uses well to get past defenders and create chances for herself and teammates.
Madeleine Schlichter, Forward, D’Feeters, 2019: Schlichter is a versatile attacker who can take up multiple roles. She is athletic and very hard working. When played on the wing, she is able to serve in accurate balls. When deployed in the center, Schlichter is confident on the ball and can pick out a quality through ball to supporting attackers.
Annica Wilson, Forward, Coeur D’Alene SC, 2018: Wilson is an excellent forward who has all of the physical attributes to be dominating. Her footwork can improve, but what she lacks in ball skills is more than made up with athletic ability and determination. She makes good, dangerous, diagonal runs behind the defensive line.
