Top U20 MNT performers bloom in Dallas
DALLAS — The U.S. U20 attackers will be topical over the coming days, and for good reason. Rubio Rubin is establishing himself as an absolute “must-know” for U.S. Soccer fans who follow the up-and-comers.
Ben Spencer has demonstrated a tremendous balance of hard work, leadership and technical craft.
But the defenders and goalkeeper Santiago Castano were the real heroes on Friday as the United States did just enough while a man down against Brazil’s Fluminense to see out a semifinal win in the Dallas Cup.
Following Erik Palmer-Brown’s 49th minute ejection, Ramos re-shaped the team into a 4-4-1 with a straight line midfield, but the technical Brazilians were tight in possession, leaving Ramos’ team with very little of the ball over the last 35 minutes. When midfielder Lynden Gooch or big centerback Matthew Maizga did win a tackle, the Americans frequently handed possession right back.
