U14 GNT heads to training camp in Colorado
The U.S. Under-14 Girls’ National Team will gather from July 15-22 for a training camp in Fort Collins, Colo.
U.S. U-14 GNT head coach April Kater has called up 36 players, 27 born in 2004, eight born in 2005 and one in 2006. The first U-14 GNT training camp of this year was last February in Norco, Calif., and featured 48 players, and the second was in San Diego in May and featured 36.
From this camp, Kater will choose an 18-player roster to represent the USA at the 2018 Concacaf Girls’ U-15 Championship that will be held from August 6-13 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., as U.S. Soccer will bring a younger team to the competition which will mostly feature players born in 2003.
The U.S. U-15 GNT is currently in a training camp at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif., and from that roster, a 20-player team will be chosen to play in a U-15 tournament in China that will also feature the hosts, Japan and the Czech Republic. That competition is being staged at the same time as the Concacaf U-15 tournament.
The Concacaf Girls’ U-15 Championship will be the largest ever Concacaf tournament for female participants and will feature a record number of Concacaf Member Associations as well as two invited teams from UEFA.
The 36 players in this camp come from 27 different youth clubs with multiple players coming from the San Jose Earthquakes (3), Beach FC (3) out of Southern California, MVLA (2) out of Northern California, NTH Tophat (2) out of Georgia, Solar SC (2) out of Texas, the San Diego Surf (2) and Real So Cal (2) out of Southern California.
