U16 GNT heads to Chula Vista for training
The U.S. Under-16 Girls’ National Team will hold a training camp from July 23-30 at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
U-16 WNT head coach Kacey White has called up 24 players with 21 born in 2002, two in 2003 and one in 2004. This is the third domestic camp of the year for the U-16s, who also won a tournament in Belgium in May, downing its counterparts from Croatia (4-0), Belgium (1-0) and Switzerland (2-1). All the goal scorers from those games -- Joyelle Washington (two goals), Michelle Cooper, Samantha Kroeger, Trinity Rodman and Allyson Sentnor – are on this roster.
This group of players moved up from the U-14 level last year and will spend two years as the U-16 GNT before moving on to the U-18s. These players are all age-eligible for the 2018 U-17 Women’s World Cup, which has an age cut-off of players born on or after January 1, 2001, but will eventually be the core age group for the team that will attempt to qualify for the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
