The Concacaf Under-20 Championship kicks off today, with the United States starting its quest to reach the Men’s U20 World Cup in 2025.
Four teams that reach the semifinals of the competition will qualify for the tournament, set to be hosted next year in Chile.
The United States seeks to win the regional crown for a fourth year running. Head coach Michael Nsien announced the U.S. roster last week. It’s a young roster, with only seven players born in 2005, the cutoff year for this tournament. Part of that is likely down to clubs not releasing players for the tournament, whether in the middle of MLS seasons or looking to breakthrough in a European preseason.
