October 26, 2019
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In an Atlantic Coast Conference clash featuring two teams in the top 26 of the latest RPI rankings, the 23rd-ranked NC State men’s soccer team (8-4-3, 3-3-1 ACC) endured a 3-0 defeat at Syracuse (7-4-4, 2-3-2 ACC) Saturday evening inside SU Soccer Stadium.
Syracuse took the lead late in the first half when Severin Soerlie scored from very close range on an assist by Luther Archimede in the 37th minute. Soerlie played a long pass to Archimede on the wing and Archimede crossed a low ball through the six-yard box that Soerlie was able to hit just past goalkeeper Vincent Durand.
NC State came out strong to start the second half, as George Asomani registered a shot just high of goal in the 48th minute and Tyler Gabarra whipped in a dangerous corner kick in the 51st minute, but the Syracuse defense held firm.
The Orange doubled their advantage in the 63rd minute when Ryan Raposo scored a curling strike from 16 yards out that hit the bottom of the crossbar and caromed in. The assist came on a quick free kick restart by teammate Hilli Goldhar.
Amferny Sinclair increased the Syracuse lead in the 67th minute with a first-time strike from 22 yards out that found the top corner.
NC State concludes the 2019 regular season at home on Friday, Nov. 1 when third-ranked Clemson comes to Raleigh. Kickoff between the Wolfpack and Tigers is scheduled for 7 pm from Dail Soccer Stadium with live streaming coverage provided by ACC Network Extra. Prior to the match, a ceremony to honor the Wolfpack’s senior class will take place.
