#8 Falcons Win Home Opener Against D&E
September 11, 2013
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Notre Dame College men's soccer team continued the grand openings on Mueller Field, with a 5-1 victory over Davis and Elkins.
The No.8 Falcons (3-0) produced a solid performance in challenging conditions, as heat on the new turf reached temperatures in excess of 90 degrees.
Freshman Reymar Kochko-Khoo continued his goal scoring start to the season as he latched on to Renan Troccoli's cross in the 26th minute. Troccoli then switched from provider to scorer in the 30th minute to put the Falcons up 2-0 at the half.
The second half was a scrappy affair, with both teams feeling the heat. The Falcons conceded their first goal of the season in the 48th minute, when Oliver Bienias shot from outside the 18 yard box dipped over goalkeeper Jan Skorupinski.
The Falcons responded quickly though with forward Adam Mitchell opening his scoring account for the Falcons with a header from a Ryan Ware's cross. Mitchell would score again in the 68th minute, this time showing his striking ability with a shot into the bottom left-hand corner from 18 yards out. The Falcons added polish to the victory when substitute Mitch Griffiths scored his first goal for the Falcons with a coolly taken chance from 6 yards out.
The Falcons finished the game outshooting the Senators 16-12.
This is the sixth year in a row that the Falcons have started their season with 3 consecutive victories. The Falcons will begin Mountain East Conference play on Saturday, when they travel to Wheeling to take on the Cardinals from Wheeling Jesuit at 2 p.m. Following Saturday's game the Falcons return home to Mueller Field to take on No.23 University of Charleston at 4 p.m.
