Balanced Attack Keys Warhawk Win
Three different players scored for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team in a 3-2 victory over Carthage Friday night in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The 14th ranked Warhawks remain perfect this season with a 6-0 record, while the hosting Red Men fall to 3-4.
Carthage poured on the heat in the first 13 minutes firing off four shots in which the final one found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Just over four minutes later Justin Stanko (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) buried a free kick from 27-yards out to tie the game.
The teams traded shots for the rest of the half, but the score remained 1-1 at the intermission.
UW-Whitewater wasted little time in the second half, taking the lead on a goal by Dylan Hottsmith(DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) just 27 seconds in. Hottsmith was assisted by Novak.
Like the Warhawks in the first half, Carthage quickly countered with a goal minutes later to tie the game.
In the 62nd minute, UW-Whitewater took the lead for good when Hottsmith found Jordan Kayser(Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) for the go-ahead goal.
The Warhawk defense did the rest by allowing just one Carthage shot for the rest of the match. Goalkeeper Alex Buchman (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) made five saves in the game to improve to 6-0 this season.
The match featured a little bit of everything: a 45-minute lightning delay, rain, fog, 21 fouls and seven yellow cards.
UW-Whitewater will return to Kenosha on Saturday for their next match against Wittenberg at 3 pm.
