Blugolds Fall on the Road to Blue Devils
MENOMONIE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) — After picking up an overtime conference victory over UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team was seeking their second-straight win, this time against rival UW-Stout in Menomonie. After a four-goal first half, the Blue Devils got the lone goal in the second half and held on for the 3-2 win over the Blugolds.
The Blue Devils (5-7-1, 3-1-0) got the scoring started in the 19th minute of the first half. They added another goal in the 32nd minute to take a 2-0 lead. But in the 33rd minute, the Blugolds (4-4-3, 1-2-1) responded to cut the lead in half.
Jocelyn Etten (Fr.-Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn Area) scored on an assist from Ashley Seymour (So.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area). With just ten seconds left in the half, Jackie Nailor (Fr.-Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) tied the game at 2-2 on an assist from Etten.
After a scoring binge in the first half, it was the Blue Devils who got the lone goal in the second half. In the 70th minute, UW-Stout got a header off a corner kick to take a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.
The Blugolds outshot the Blue Devils 13-7 and Nina Behrenbrinker (Sr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) made four saves in goal. There were two yellow cards in the game, both in the second half. Kara Ryan (Sr.-Plymouth Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) received the first one in the 46th minute and Jessica Goodrich of UW-Stout got one in the 83rd minute.
The Blugolds will travel to UW-Oshkosh to take on the Titans on Saturday, Oct. 12. The game will be at 6 p.m.
