Centre men win 2-0 over Millsaps on Senior Day
With seven seniors playing in their final home game of their career, the Centre College men's soccer team earned a 2-0 shutout victory over Millsaps Sunday, Oct. 23 in Danville, Ky.
With the win, the Colonel are now 5-0-1 in their last six matches, and improve to 11-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), while Millsaps falls to 2-11-1 overall and 0-8 in league play.
Senior Ben Van Nevel (Louisville, Ky.) scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist from Cameron Miller (Nicholasville, Ky.) at the 33:49 mark in the first half for a 1-0 Centre lead. The assist was Miller's fourth of the year.
Freshman Alex Seither (Louisville, Ky.) then notched his second goal of the season with less than 10 minutes to play in the second half for the final 2-0 tally. Senior Austin Hall (Indianapolis, Ind.) had the assist, his seventh of the year.
The Colonels out-shot the Majors 21-5 on the day and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. Seniors Chris Jackson (Oxford, Ohio) and Alejandro Ariza (Bogota, Columbia) combined for the shutout win in goal for Centre. Jackson made four saves, while Ariza stopped the only shot he faced.
Centre will next travel to Atlanta, Ga. to play Oglethorpe University Friday, Oct. 28. Start time is set for 3 p.m.
