Columbia Ties Brown 1-1
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Columbia men's soccer team answered an early goal from Brown with one of their own, as the teams played to a 1-1 draw in the Ivy League opener.
Matthew Chow started the scoring in the ninth minute, knocking in his fourth score of the season to put the Bears up, 1-0.
Shots by Arthur Bosua, Francisco Agrest and Danny Laranetto all would not find the net, before the Lions drew a corner kick in the 37th minute. The ball bounced around from several players in front of the box, before Alex Bangerl tracked it down. The junior tri-captain was able to put an impressive bicycle kick into the lower right corner for the equalizer.
The teams went into the half at a 1-1 tie, with Brown holding an 8-6 advantage in shots.
The Lions managed shots from Agrest and John Denis in the second half, but were unable to find the net. Zachary Adler saved two of his five shots in the second frame, which sent the two teams to overtime knotted at 1-1.
In the two overtime periods, the Lions had looks from Denis and Bangerl, but were unable to get anything across as the game would end in a 1-1 draw.
Columbia is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. against Drexel at Manhattanville College.
