Denver Announces 2018 Schedule
DENVER – The 2017 Summit League Tournament champion Denver women’s soccer team has announced its 18-match regular season schedule for the 2018 season, including eight home games at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium, head coach Jeff Hooker announced on Thursday.
Following two exhibitions, including a home friendly against Texas Tech (Aug. 10), Denver starts the campaign with a rare Thursday night opener against Colorado State at 7 p.m. MT, the first of three matches the Pioneers will play as a part of the 2018 Colorado Cup.
The Pioneers cap-off their Colorado Cup opening weekend against Colorado College on August 19 in Boulder (11 a.m.).
In the second weekend of the regular season, the Pioneers will take advantage of one of their last few weeks before school with a trip to Florida to take on former Sun Belt Conference foes Florida Atlantic (Aug. 23) and Florida International (Aug. 26).
Denver will return to the Mile High City for its longest homestand of the year from August 31-September 9. The Pioneers open the home-stretch with their first match against Iowa State since 2014 when Denver turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 victory in the final five minutes with goals from Anna Willis and Makenzie Bothner. Denver will conclude one of only two home two-match weekends in the campaign with a game against Columbia on September 2 (12 p.m.). The Crimson and Gold cap the homestand by hosting Eastern Washington on September 9 (12 p.m.).
Hooker’s Pioneers will take part in the 33rd Colorado Derby to cap-off the Eighth Annual Colorado Cup with a trip to Boulder on September 16th (1 p.m.) in a rematch of last year’s NCAA First Round that CU took 2-1.
The CU match starts a three-match road swing that concludes with a trip to California the following weekend when the Pioneers battle UC Riverside on September 21 (8 p.m.) and Cal State Fullerton on September 23 (2 p.m.).
Denver will begin its quest for its third Summit League regular season title in its sixth year in the league (2013, 2016) when the Pioneers welcome South Dakota (Sept. 28/7 p.m.) and Omaha (Sept. 30/12 p.m.) to the University of Denver Soccer Stadium in the opening weekend of league play.
The Pioneers first road trip of the campaign sees DU visit 2016 co-regular season champion North Dakota State (Oct. 4/6 p.m.) and 2017 regular season champion South Dakota State (Oct. 7/12 p.m.).
DU’s only split home and away week of the 2018 campaign features a trip for the Pioneers to Fort Wayne on October 11 (5 p.m.) before returning home to host Summit League newcomers North Dakota on October 14 (12 p.m.).
The rest of the Summit League will have matches in hand in the league table during the late stages of the 2018 campaign as Denver’s two byes in the league slate fall in the final two weeks of the regular season. Denver starts the final stretch with a single-match weekend trip to Western Illinois on October 21 (11 a.m.). The Pioneers will close out the regular season with a home match against Oral Roberts on October 27 (1 p.m.).
