DENVER – The University of Denver women’s soccer program will play 18 regular season matches in 2019, an even split of nine at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium and nine on the road, head coach Jeff Hooker announced on Monday.
Hooker’s 2019 10-match non-conference slate combined for a 99-76-22 record a year ago, includes six teams that recorded double digit wins, two teams that finished inside the top-50 in the RPI and two teams that qualified for the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
Denver will host its first four games of the campaign, welcoming Boston (Aug. 22/7 p.m. MT), Drake (Aug. 25/12 p.m. MT), Texas (Aug. 29/7 p.m. MT) and Kent State (Sept. 1/12 p.m. MT) to the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Boston (85) and Texas (17) both finished inside the top-100 of the RPI a year ago and made appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Pioneers are 1-0-1 in their history against Drake and 0-0-1 against Texas, a late two-goal comeback in Austin in 2012.
Following the four-match homestand to open the season, Denver will head west to Portland for a pair of matches against sides from Washington. The Pioneers will open the weekend with their first of two matches against Pac-12 teams, taking on the University of Washington (Sept. 5/6 p.m. MT). Denver will then battle the host Portland Pilots (Sept. 8/2 p.m. MT) before returning to Colorado for two single-match weekends. Denver is 1-0-0 all-time against the Huskies and 2-6-0 against Portland in its history.
DU will make its first trip up I-25 to Fort Collins for a clash with Colorado State (Sept. 13/4 p.m. MT) before hosting the Colorado Derby against the Buffs on September 21 (apx. 7:30 p.m. MT) as part of a double header with the men’s program, who play SMU at 5 p.m. MT. CU was 46th in the RPI in 2018, and was left out of the NCAA Tournament. The Buffs and Pioneers will meet for the 34th time, including the 23rd time since the Pioneers turned Division I in 1998.
The Pioneers will make their annual trip out to California in the final week of September when Denver travels to UC Riverside (Sept. 26/8 p.m. MT) and Cal State Northridge (2 p.m. MT).
Denver will begin its defense of its Summit League regular season title on October 6 with a trip to Oral Roberts (12 p.m. MT). The Pioneers will play Summit League home matches against Western Illinois (Oct. 10), Purdue Fort Wayne (Oct. 27), South Dakota State (Oct. 31) and North Dakota State (Nov. 3) in their eight-match league schedule.
The Crimson and Gold will look to make it three-straight Summit League Tournament titles November 7-9 in Brookings, S.D.
