DiVivo Goal Lifts UMass Past Delaware, 1-0
AMHERST, Mass. -- Connor DeVivo’s goal on a direct kick in the 42nd minute allowed Massachusetts to take the lead en route to a 1-0 win over Delaware in the season-opener at Rudd Field Friday.
The junior took the shot from 25 yards out on the left wing for his first goal of the season. For the native of nearby Chicopee, Mass., it was his second-career game-winning score.
The Minutemen outshot the Blue Hens 11-7 and were awarded five corner kicks, three more than UD.
Senior Brian Frame made two saves in goal as he picked up his first career win in three starts.
Jay Lupas stopped six shots for UD.
UMass showed its depth as the match progressed, bringing eight players off the bench as substitutes.
UMass will return to action on Monday when it plays host to Vermont at 1 p.m.
