Ephs defeat Camels 2-0
NEW LONDON, CT – Led by a goal from senior Brett Eisenhart and a second from first-year Lilly Wellenbach, the Williams women’s soccer team defeated the Connecticut College Camels today in New London. With the win, the Ephs move to 9-2-1 (6-1-1 NESCAC) on the year, while the Camels fall to 4-7-1 (1-6-1 NESCAC).
In the 28th minute of the game, Eisenhart chipped in a cross from junior Caitlyn Clark to give the Ephs the lead. Eisenhart had three shots on the day. She leads the team with nine goals on the season. Clark leads the Ephs in assists with seven.
The Ephs added insurance with just under two to play when Wellenbach scored the first goal of her career. From the six-yard line, she was able to finish off of an assist from sophomore Carla Nicasio.
Keeper Laura Wann saved the Camels’ only shot of the day, and Connecticut College goalie Natalie Signor made six saves in the game.
Said Coach Michelyne Pinard after the game about the contributions of all four classes, “It doesn’t matter what year you are. We’re all on the same page and we want all the same things. It feels really good for everybody to be contributing.”
Pinard was happy with this weekend’s results, which included a win against Tufts yesterday. She said, “It was a really great weekend. It was great to get two results, and we’re looking forward to Colby next week.”
With today’s win, the Ephs secured a home contest in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC tournament, which take place on the 29th.
The Ephs will take on Colby at home next Saturday at 11:00.
