Falcons Make It Two From Two In Erie
ERIE, Pa. – The Notre Dame College men's soccer team continued their strong start to the season with a 3-0 victory over Gannon.
Once again the Falcons (2-0) were playing in Erie, Pa. and were facing a ranked opponent, the Golden Knights (0-2) were ranked at No.13 coming into the game.
Senior defender Philip Cutler opened the scoring for the Falcons in the seventh minute when he connected, at the second attempt, to Tom Owens free kick. The Falcons controlled possession in the first half, limiting the Golden Knights to only one shot on goal.
The Falcons continued their dominance of possession in the second half and were rewarded when substitute freshman Reymar Klochko-Khoo connected to Ryan Ware's cross.
With both teams tiring, playing their second games in three days, the Falcons made a number of key substitutions. Chris Fairley broke down the left wing and crossed from the byline to Kyle Hayes who was there to provide the finishing touch.
The Falcons finished the game outshooting the Golden Knights 20-4.
The win marked the second consecutive win over a ranked opponent to start the season, having defeated No.4 Mercyhurst 1-0 on Friday.
The Falcons will have no time to rest though, as they return back to South Euclid to face the Senators from Davis and Elkins on Wednesday September 11th at 3 p.m. The Senators were not ranked in the preseason but were receiving votes. The game vs. the Senators will be the home opener for the Falcons and also be their first appearance on Mueller Field.
