Foresters Top Warhawks
The UW-Whitewater men's soccer team surrendered a 1-0 halftime lead to fall 2-1 to Lake Forest Sunday at Farwell Field in Lake Forest, Illinois. The Warhawks fall to 7-5-3 with the loss while the Foresters improve to 14-3-1.
Logan Fye (Rockford, IL/Winnebago) put the pressure on the Foresters early firing off shots at :31, 2:16, 4:51, and 12:07. His first shot hit the post and the other three were saved by Forester goalkeeper Ethan Guenther.
Xander Lien (Pewaukee/Arrowhead) continued with the offensive pressure as he put a shot on goal at 27:29, but Guenther again made the stop for the Foresters.
Ryan Reid (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) broke the scoreless tie notching his first goal of the season in the 34th minute of action. Alex Szarzynski (Greenfield/South Milwaukee) registered the assist, his third of the season.
Four minutes into the second half the Foresters' Mahir Mameledzija scored his 26th goal of the season to tie the game at one.
The teams traded shots, fouls, yellow cards and corner kicks over the course of the next 34 minutes when Mameledzija struck again scoring an unassisted goal at 83:16 to make it 2-1 in favor of the Foresters.
Fye and Kody Mjelde (Baraboo/Baraboo) both made attempts to tie the game in the waning moments, but Lake Forest back-up goalkeeper Giancarlo Colasanti saved both to preserve the win.
Josh Rohde (Waukesha/Waukesha West) started in goal for the Warhawks and made five saves in the game.
UW-W will finish regular season play with a match on Friday, November 2 at Fiskum Field in Whitewater against UW-Oshkosh beginning at 7:00 pm.
