Gamecocks Beat Mercer 2-1 in Lidlifter

In front of the eighth-largest crowd for a men’s soccer match in Stone Stadium history, South Carolina (1-0) started the 2015 season with a 2-1 victory over defending Southern Conference regular-season champion Mercer on Friday night.
A total of 4,325 fans streamed into Stone Stadium to watch the Gamecocks get the win in fine fashion. Freshman defender Ben Davidson blasted home the first goal in the 17th minute with a beautiful shot, sending in the free kick from 24 yards out. That 1-0 lead held through halftime, as the Gamecocks and Bears played a very even first half.
