Haines, Mines Stake 3-1 Win At Adams State
ALAMOSA – Junior Joe Haines recorded his second collegiate brace in the second half as Colorado School of Mines men's soccer earned a 3-1 afternoon decision at Adams State on Friday in Alamosa.
Haines spurred the Orediggers (7-4, 5-2 RMAC) to a 2-1 lead at 63:19, directing a cross from senior Tannor Randle to back net via a header.
With less than 6:30 passed, the McKinney, Texas product cushioned the advantage in the 70th minute with his third goal in three contests and fourth of the season – tied for the team lead with classmate Richard Garvey.
Freshman Nikolaus Grotz provided the men a short-lived 1-0 margin on his third of 2014 at 33:07, but the Grizzlies (1-9, 0-7 RMAC) swiftly countered 2:45 later as Shane Wagner set up Ethan Jackson for his team-best third score.
Haines and Grotz combined for eight shots and five shots on frame as the Orediggers outshot ASU 15-8 and 8-2, respectively.
Garvey tallied a pair of on-goal tries and senior Matthew Alemann added one.
Freshman Josh Clark denied one of two shots on goal in the 90:00 minutes to improve to 3-1.
Mines concludes its road trip through southwestern Colorado at 2:30 p.m. Sunday against Fort Lewis at Dirks Field in Durango.
