Harr Spurs Marist To Win Over Canisius
POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Freshman Cameron Harr scored the first and last goals of a 3-2 Marist men's soccer win over Canisius on Sept. 30 in Tenney Stadium. The victory helped the Red Foxes remain unbeaten in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play (2-0) and bring them to 4-5 on the season.
Harr beat a pair of defenders on the left side and buried a shot into the back right corner of the net to put Marist on the board in the first half. Canisius got the equalizer early in the second half off a deflection in front, but freshman Simon Lund Jorgensen converted on a penalty kick for his first career goal to give the Red Foxes the lead again.
Just 54 seconds later, the Griffins got a score from redshirt freshman Melvin Blair to tie the contest once again. Marist's defense held up during a Canisius corner kick and Harr broke free on the right side to score the game-winner on a feed from senior Brian Coyt with 1:34 remaining in the contest.
Marist held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks and had nine shots on goal in the match. Harr fired four shots and now leads the Red Foxes with six goals in 2015. Blair finished with four shots in the loss for Canisius.
The Red Foxes will look to continue their winning streak when they host Saint Peter's at 2 p.m. Oct. 3.
