Hawks Drop 3-1 Decision at Marist
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Cameron Harr scored all three Red Foxes’ goals as host Marist College defeated Hartwick’s men’s soccer team 3-1 on Tuesday night at Tenney Stadium in Poughkeepsie. The Hawks cut a 2-0 deficit in half late in the first stanza on a goal from Johnny McBeth (Glasgow, Scotland/Upper Iowa University) but Harr would pick up his third tally of the night early in the second half to push the lead back to two.
The Hawks fall to 1-1 on the season with the setback. The Red Foxes improve to 1-0-1.
Harr broke the ice just 5:28 into the contest to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. He gave his team a 2-0 advantage at 26:11. Samad Bounthong and Simo Lund Jorgensen eared helpers on the opening two tallies.
It took the Hawks until the 40:21 mark to get on the scoreboard as McBeth netted his first goal in a Hartwick jersey off a corner kick from Jack Donaldson (Paisley, Scotland/Mars Hill University).
Hartwick entered halftime down 2-1, but the Foxes regained their two-goal lead 6:35 into the second half as Harr beat ’Wick keeper Lenny Wilson (Aberdeen, Scotland) to the near post for a 3-1 lead.
The Hawks’ nearly trimmed the gap to one with roughly 28 minutes remaining in the contest. Marcus Nordgard (Copenhagen, Denmark/Oeregaard Gymnasium) sent a header from a corner in on goal but his effort struck the crossbar and went over the top of the net.
Hartwick finished the match with a 16-10 edge in shots. The total included a 12-3 margin in the second half, but the two goals were too much to overcome on the night.
Wilson ended the match with two saves in ’Wick’s goal. Marist goalkeeper Mark Rajovic made six stops in the victory.
The Hawks are next in action on Sunday, September 4 in Moon Township, PA as they face Robert Morris University beginning at 1 p.m.
