Homegrown Watch is back.
There’s such a wide variety of MLS-connected talent currently plying its trade in the Development Academy and college soccer that the landscape is hardly recognizable from 15-20 years ago. Many strides of improvement still need to be made, but at the very least, MLS teams aren’t necessarily hurting for options within their Homegrown ranks. Whether they actually play them on the senior team is another matter.
With that in mind, here are a few top Homegrown players - that is, players who’ve played in an MLS academy for the prescribed amount of time - angling for professional minutes down the line. If these three clubs are paying attention, each of these players will get a long, hard look.
