Iona MSOC Drops Season-Finale At Manhattan
RIVERDALE, NY – The Iona College men’s soccer team saw its season come to a close Wednesday evening with a 1-0 loss to rival Manhattan. The Gaels outshot the Jaspers 17-6, but only forced two shots on goal. Senior Niels Kirch scored the lone score in the game on Manhattan’s only shot on net.
Sophomore Daniel Huertas had a game-high six total shots and two shots on goal. The Maroon & Gold’s leading goal-scorer fired a shot on net in the fourth minute and 51st minute, but graduate Deljan Bregasi stood tall in net and halted the chances.
Junior Luis Mendoza had three shots, and the senior duo of Jordan Scarlett and Teddy Forson each attempted two attacks.
Iona was called for offside six times, four coming in the second half. Manhattan scored the game-winning goal just moments after one such whistle blew in the 47thminute.
The Gaels end the season with a 5-13-0 (4-6-0 MAAC) record, placing seventh in the final conference standings.
