The Series with Delaware: JMU leads the series 11-3-3, but the last two meetings have gone to overtime. That includes a 3-2 JMU regular-season win last season in Newark, and a 2-2 tie in the 2011 CAA semifinals, played at JMU. Delaware advanced over JMU on penalty kicks to get to the CAA final, where the Blue Hens upset Old Dominion.
Four of the last six meetings were decided by a single goal, another meeting in that stretch was a tie. The exception during the six-game span was a 4-2 JMU victory in Harrisonburg in 2010.

ODU Was Third Ranked Opponent: JMU faced its third Top-25 opponent in a six-game span when the Dukes battled #12/11 Old Dominion to a scoreless overtime tie on Oct. 4. The Dukes beat then #2/1 (Soccer America/NSCAA) North Carolina 1-0 at home on Sept. 11 and lost 1-0 to then #11/5 Georgetown at home on Sept. 25.
The Dukes' record against ranked teams is 1-1-1.
Upset of UNC Ranks #1 in Fan Vote: JMU's Sept. 11 win over defending NCAA champion North Carolina currently ranks as the top upset of the year in online voting at TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Some 77 percent of voters have chosen the win over the Tar Heels as the biggest upset of the year. JMU also leads the category "Which program is most likely to pull another big upset this season?" with 53 percent of the vote. Senior All-America Paul Wyatt is the leading vote-getter for the question "Which standout player is the best giant-killer?" with 58 percent of the vote.
Newcity Records Career-High Saves vs. ODU: Dukes redshirt junior goalkeeper Colin Newcity turned away a career-high nine shots in JMU's scoreless overtime tie at #12/11 (Soccer America/NSCAA) Old Dominion on Oct. 3.
ODU came into the match averaging just over three goals per game and ranked fifth in NCAA Division I in total goals. The Monarchs were shut out for the first time this year.
Newcity's saves included a stop with 18 seconds left in the second overtime on a shot by Tim Hopkinson. Hopkinson leads the CAA and ranks third in the NCAA in scoring.
Road Swing: The Dukes conclude a stretch of three consecutive road games Oct. 10 at UNCW. JMU is 0-4-1 away from home this season, including 0-2-1 on its opponents' home fields and 0-2-0 in neutral-site games.
Four Opponents Projected for NCAA Field: Four of the Dukes' opponents are projected to be among the 48 teams in the 2012 NCAA Tournament field, according to the website TopDrawerSoccer.com. The weekly rankings are a running attempt to project the postseason NCAA Tournament qualifiers, including every automatic conference berth. The Week 8 rankings were released Oct. 8.
