JMU Men Win 2-1 in 2 OT at UNCW
WILMINGTON, N.C., Oct. 10, 2012 -- Sophomore Nick Njuki (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) scored late in the second overtime to lift James Madison to a 2-1 win at North Carolina Wilmington in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer Wednesday evening.
Njuki scored his first college goal on a shot from 24 yards into the upper left corner of the goal. The score came with 2:06 left in the second 10-minute sudden-victory period.
JMU improved its overall record to 5-5-2 and its CAA record to 3-1-1. UNCW's records stand at 5-6-1 overall and 2-2-0 in league competition.
Freshman Eric Schmidt (Arlington, Va./Washington Lee) got the Dukes on the scoreboard in the 35th minute, when he scored his first career JMU goal on a header off a cross from junior Markus Bjørkheim (Bergen, Norway/Fana Gymnas).
UNCW evened the match just 57 seconds before halftime as Jamie Dell netted a 12-yard shot.
JMU freshman goalkeeper Kyle Morton (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), in his first career game appearance for the Dukes, finished with nine saves.
