La Salle Survives Saints’ Second Half Surge
Siena Soccer held a 10-0 edge in shots and a 7-0 margin in corners in the second half, but couldn’t overcome a first half La Salle goal as the Explorers held off the Saints 1-0 in Philadelphia.
Andrew Connors’ 19th minute tally proved to be the difference for La Salle (2-3) which out-shot Siena (0-3-2) 11-2 in the first half. Junior goalkeeper Ryan Vyskocil made all five of his saves during the opening stanza to keep the Saints within striking distance.
For the second straight match Siena’s offense came alive in the final stanza with another double-digit shot second half, but the Saints were unable to find the tying score. Junior striker Junior Rosero led the Saints with three targets for the match, while freshman midfielder J.C. Obregon had both of Siena’s shots on goal.
Mike Kirk made two saves to earn the clean sheet in goal for La Salle which played down a man for the majority of the second half following a red card on Garrett Keys in the 50th minute.
The Saints continue their five-match road trip Tuesday night with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Big East foe St. John’s.
