Loras shuts down Cardinal men, 4-0
DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team learned first-hand why Loras was such a tough team to play at the Rock Bowl.
Loras, which entered Sunday's nonconference game against the Cardinals ranked No. 15 in the NSCA preseason poll — and was 11-1-2 — on their home turf, broke a scoreless tie with four second-half goals in handing the Cardinals a 4-0 setback Sunday.
The Duhawks snapped a 0-0 tie two minutes into the second half, as Kevin Cavers score his first goal of the season. Erik Berkowtiz made it 2-0 four minutes later, and Tim van den Bergh and Alejandro Cosjomopolis also scored in the game's final 45 minutes to seal the win.
Donte Gillespe (Naperville, Ill.) finished with five save in goal for the Cardinals, while Christian Van Dam (Livonia, Mich.) played the final 5:25, stopping the only shot he faced.
The Cardinals (1-1 overall) are back in action Saturday, hosting Concordia-Chicago in a 4:30 p.m. contest at Ochrymowycz Field.
