Manchester toppled by Huntington
HUNTINGTON, IND. – Manchester University sophomore goalkeeper Craig Thacker (Lebanon, Ind.) repelled 11 Huntington University shot attempts at the Spartans’ goal Tuesday, Sept. 11, but the host Foresters managed to sneak three others into the net en route to a 3-1 victory.
Thacker and MU’s defense battled the opposing offense throughout, as they held a 19-6 shots advantage on the Black and Gold. MU, dipping to 1-2-1, did get on the board in the 56th minute, as junior midfielder Zac Hansen (Muskegon, Mich.) got through the defense and produced his team-leading second goal of the season. The tally brought the Spartans within 2-1, but HU sophomore forward Josh Chodd, just as he had in the 22nd minute, scored less than two minutes later to put the home team back up by a two-goal advantage.
Hansen shared the total shots’ lead with five other Manchester University players and shared the shots on goal top spot with three others. Freshman midfielder/forward Ola Ladapo (London, England), freshman midfielder Matthew Jordan (Zionsville, Ind.) and sophomore defender/midfielder Drew Vergonet (Elkhart, Ind.) each added shot on goal strikes.
The Spartans return to the pitch Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13 and 14, at Trine University’s Ketner Classic in Angola, Ind. MU takes on Adrian College of Michigan at 4 p.m. Friday and the host Thunder at 4 p.m. Saturday.
