Manhattan Hands Iona Road Loss, 4-0
RIVERDALE, NY – The Iona College women's soccer team suffered its second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference loss against Manhattan on Wednesday night, 4-0. The Jaspers struck with one goal in the first half before tallying three additional tallies in the second portion of the contest.
Freshman Sydney Harwood scored her first collegiate and game-winning goal in the 42nd minute with a 25-yard strike from the left side of the penalty box. Junior Caroline Taylor and freshman Alexa Chapman each scored their first collegiate net-rattlers in the second half. Sophomore Arianna Montefusco gave the Jaspers their 3-0 lead with her third goal of the season.
Sophomore Mariana Jaramillo had a team-high four shots, and fellow starter freshman Lisette Palomo chipped in with two. Graduate Jacque Rice had three total shots off the bench, two of which were on goal.
Manhattan outshot Iona 19 to 16, and had a seven to five shots on goal advantage. The Jaspers had five corner kicks compared to two for the Maroon & Gold.
The Gaels return to action on Saturday at 11 AM when they host the Siena Saints at Mazzella Field.
