Marauders Hold On to Upset No. 13 Mercyhurst
Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville men’s soccer team responded after dropping its game to Gannon on Friday. The Marauders held on to beat No. 13 Mercyhurst 3-1 on senior day at Chryst Field at Biemsderfer Stadium.
Millersville (7-4-1, 5-1-0 PSAC) took the lead in the 33rd minute. Senior Aaron Roland sent a long cross coming down the left side that found Matt Kadoch one-on-one with the Lakers’ goalkeeper. Kadoch fired it left side to beat Diego Gustin to put the Marauders up 1-0.
Despite heading into the break down, 1-0 the Lakers outshot Millersville by a margin of 10-8.
Mercyhurst withstood the Marauders’ pressure to begin the second half. In the 63rd minute the Lakers found a game-tying goal. Austin Solomon found a loose ball in front of the goal to knock it home and knot the game at 1-1 with 27 minutes to play in regulation.
Seven minutes later Millersville regained the lead. Roland, who assisted on the first goal, collected a rebound off a shot from Clark Habecker and sent it in the back of the goal to put Millersville up 2-1.
In the final minute, Kadoch received a pass from Roland at midfield. Kadoch dribbled the ball 40 yards down the left side, passing defenders, to knock in his second goal of the game to put the Marauders up 3-1 with 12 seconds to play.
Brad Benzing recorded seven saves in goal for Millersville to earn his seven win of the season. Kadoch and Roland finished the game with four point each. For Roland, it was his final regular season home game.
The Marauders return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at University of District of Columbia. The game is set to kick off at 4 p.m.
