Marist Men's Soccer Improves to 2-0
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A late first half goal by sophomore Mario Vukadinovic (Konstanz, Germany) gave the Marist men’s soccer team a 1-0 win Monday night, their second victory of the year. The Red Foxes (2-0-0) defeated the Binghamton Bearcats (1-1-0) on the road in a non-conference game held in front of 1,225 fans.
Vukadinovic scored in the 41st minute with a header off a free kick from senior MJ Stellwag (Newburgh, N.Y.). Stellwag recorded his first assist of the season on the goal.
The Red Foxes outshot Binghamton 5-2 in the first half. In the second half Binghamton recorded seven shots to none from the Red Foxes. Freshman goalkeeper Mark Rajovic (Katonah, N.Y.) was stellar in goal again, recording four saves and earning his second straight shutout of the young season.
“Friday night took a lot out of us but we showed a lot of character,” head coach Matt Viggiano said. “For the guys to go into a hostile environment and pull out a win it really impressed me, good teams win tough games on the road.”
The Red Foxes look to keep their season rolling when they take on NJIT on the road in Newark, N.J. on Sept. 6.
