Martinelli and Polley Earn Weekly Awards
PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's soccer player Miguel Polley was named Philadelphia Soccer Six Rookie of the Week after his performance on Saturday against La Salle. Jared Martinelli was also named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
Visiting nearby La Salle for the other Soccer Six match of the day on Saturday, Temple needed a big comeback to earn its 2-2 draw against the Explorers. The Owls' offense was kickstarted by Miguel Polley who scored his first collegiate goal in the 48th minute to cut a 2-0 La Salle lead in half. He took a pass from midfield and beat La Salle's keeper to the upper right corner for his first collegiate goal.
Martinelli finished the comeback for the Owls. He scored the game-tying goal with six minutes left in regulation that deflected over the center of the goalkeeper. The goal was the first of the season for the preseason all-conference selection, and Polley assisted on the play.
The Owls end a four-game road trip this Wednesday at Fordham at 4:00 p.m.
