McKenna goal not enough in Stony Brook loss

Durham, N.H. - Junior Keith McKenna (Great River, N.Y.) scored a goal for the second consecutive match, but it did not prove enough for the Stony Brook men's soccer team, who had more opportunities to score, but allowed a 71st minute tie-breaking goal to New Hampshire, leading to a 2-1 loss Saturday night at Bremner Field.
The loss is Stony Brook's first during America East play, dropping the #Seawolves to 1-1-0 and 5-6-0 overall. The Wildcats improved to 2-0-0 in the league and 8-3-0 overall.
Goal Recaps
- In the 27th minute, a shot by UNH's Erik Martel was blocked, and Uche Ugochukwu got the blocked ball and bounced it into the net for a goal.
- In the 51st minute, McKenna leveled the match when he dropped a shot from 25 yards away, and the ball slammed into the crossbar, came straight down and crossed into the net for the goal.
- In the 71st minute, UNH's Jesus Tudela crossed the ball into the box, and Steven Palumbo was there to head the ball into the lower left corner of the net.

- Stony Brook outshot New Hampshire 19-14 overall and 8-6 in shots on goal.
- Sophomore Martin Giordano (Weston, Fla.) assisted on McKenna's goal and led the team with three shots on goal.
- Senior Will Casey (Setauket, N.Y.) had five shots, two on goal.
- McKenna's goal was the second of his career and second this week.
- The #Seawolves had six corner shots to UNH's three.
News & Notes
- Stony Brook's unbeaten streak over New Hampshire came to an end at five matches (2-0-3). Previously, UNH had last beaten the #Seawolves in 2007.
- Stony Brook fell to 2-5-1 all-time in Durham.
- The all-time series now favors the Wildcats at 5-4-5.
