Men's Postseason Top 100 Freshmen
With the men’s college season wrapped up, it is time to reveal the TopDrawerSoccer freshman postseason 100, ranking the players that impacted the year the most. The list is exclusively considering the collegiate play of each player, not their professional projection or MLS draft slot. With that said, Ransford Gyan of Clemson leads the way.
1. Ransford Gyan, Clemson - Gyan proved that his absurd high school highlights and accolades transferred to the next level with several sensational performances to win the ACC Freshman of the Year award. Whether dribbling through multiple defenders to win a penalty kick, delivering clutch set pieces, or playing a brilliant no-look through ball, the two-time Gatorade National POTY was the most impactful freshman in the country.
2. Sergi Solans, Oregon State - Where Gyan’s impact did not always show up on the scoresheet, Solans did, with 14 goals and three assists in just 16 appearances. Time and time again, the WCC Offensive POTY proved to have an answer for whatever attention defenses gave him in league play. The top spot would have been his, but for a home loss to open the NCAA tournament.
3. Dean Boltz, Wisconsin - Doing most of his damage early, Boltz opened his career with a hat trick and seven goals from four appearances. And despite a dry spell of three goals over the last 11 games of the season, Boltz was still an impactful force with elite athleticism and soccer instincts.
4. Tate Lampman, Georgetown - The Michigan native started game one of the season and practically never left the pitch with 1782 minutes played out of a possible 1800. By defying all expectations for the physical and mental readiness of a first-year defender at the highest level, Lampman earned a top-five ranking.
5. Dylan Borso, Wake Forest - A highly confident and technical attacker, Borso caught fire late in the season, highlighted by the viral overtime game-winner he scored to defeat Clemson in the Sweet Sixteen. It is bittersweet that the Illinois native has since signed a homegrown deal with the Chicago Fire, robbing College Soccer of one of its most entertaining attackers.
