Men's Soccer Falls to Dowling, 3-1
Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. – The men's soccer team fell to Dowling College by a score of 3-1 earlier this evening on Motamed Field in a non-conference contest. The Panthers fell behind early, knotted it at 1-1, but did not have a response for the two goals that ensued. With the loss, the Panthers move to 9-5, 8-3 NE-10 while Dowling advances to 9-3-2, 4-2-2 ECC.
The visitors wasted no time getting on the board first. It took just 12:41 for Dowling to flex their offensive muscles when Jose Herrera scored his first of two goals in the half. He received the ball deep into Panther territory on the right side and nailed a one-timer sent in from teammate Bobby Cranor, beating a diving Sergio Reyes.
The Panthers responded less than 14 minutes thanks to Caelan Hueber. The freshman forward picked up the ball on the left side, made a move and found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Chris Friedl. The play ended in Hueber's favor as he notched his sixth goal of the season to level the playing field at 1-1.
However, in the 40th minute, Dowling took the lead once again. Herrera struck for the second time in the half on a nearly identical play but this time the feed came from teammate Keith Vigorito to go up 2-1 heading into halftime.
In the second, Dowling put another goal up on the board in the 55th minute. Vigorito set up the scoring play once again when he sent a pass into Adelphi's defensive third. Sean Collins managed to create room between two defenders and get enough on the ball on to put the Golden Lion's up 3-1 which is how the match would end.
Adelphi was out-shot by a 13-9 margin but had a 4-2 corner kick advantage. Sergio Reyes logged all 90 minutes in goal and made five saves in the loss as his record now stands at 4-3.
