Men's Soccer Silenced by Penn State, 3-0
Box Score
University Park, PA – Earlier this afternoon, the men's soccer team closed out their Pennsylvania road trip with a game against the Nittany Lions of Penn State University. After slipping into a two goal deficit in the first, the Panthers allowed a third and final score in the second to drop the contest 3-0. With the loss, Adelphi slips to 1-6 while Penn State moves to 5-1-1.
Very early on, the Panthers found themselves faced with an extremely aggressive Penn State, who held possession of the ball for a good portion of the game. Defensively, Adelphi had their hands full and allowed 17 total shots and had to defend against seven corners.
Mikey Minutillo broke open the game just five ticks before the 27 minute mark when he received the ball from Julian Cardona after a counterattack and finished the play from the right side of the box to go ahead 1-0.
Things got worse for the Brown and Gold just 11 minutes later when they fell deeper in the hole on a Daniel Burnham goal to make it a 2-0 affair before the half.
The offense picked up the pace in the second, registering five shots compared to just one in the first, two of which were courtesy of Brandon Stoneham and Steve Rivera, but both were met by PSU keeper Emmanuel Martin.
In the 67th minute, Penn State put the finishing touches on the 3-0 outcome when Kelton Cheneyy blasted a shot from 15 yards out to find the back of the net.
Ahmad Salamah made three shots in the loss.
The Panthers look to get back on track on Saturday, September 22 when they play host to the Bearcats of Binghamton University on Motamed Field at 7pm.
