Milwaukee Unable To Finish Off Green Bay
October 1, 2014
GREEN BAY, Wis. (Oct. 1, 2014) - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's soccer team held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 but was unable to close out the victory, drawing against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay by a final score of 2-2 Wednesday night at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
The Panthers (3-5-2, 0-1-1 Horizon League) played the final 17 minutes of regulation and the overtime periods up a man after a red card on the Phoenix (3-3-3, 0-0-1 Horizon League), but were unable to find the golden goal to retain possession of the Chancellor's Cup.

Freshman Reid Stevenson, who had a large contingent of family and friends in attendance make the trip from nearby Sturgeon Bay, scored a pair of goals and almost had the winner in the second overtime, but his bid for a hat trick was pushed just over the cross bar in the waning minutes.
Milwaukee dominated the overtime periods, owning a 5-to-0 advantage in shots after regulation and a 15-11 edge overall on the night.
Stevenson looked to be the hero late, taking a pass on the wing from freshman Magnus Flaatedal and ripping a shot at the open net in the 105th minute. Dani Alvarado saved the night for the Phoenix, getting just enough of a hand on it to push it over.
Tied 1-1, Stevenson netted his second goal at the 79:13 mark. Following a foul, a free kick from the wing was sent in by senior Luke Goodnetter. Sophomore Beau Laufer controlled it and played out to junior Patrick Ruhland. His ball found Stevenson for his fourth of the season with just over 10 minutes to play.
However, Green Bay took advantage of a foul called just outside of the box, with Audi Jepson going upper-90 for his league-leading ninth goal of the season and a 2-2 tie at the 86:25 mark.

Sophomore Liam Anderson was credited with five saves and several were highlight-variety. UWM gave up a 68th minute penalty kick and it could have been worse, but Anderson made an impressive save less than 40 seconds later to keep it level at 1-1 at the time.
He made a nice stop at the post on a dipping ball that was deflected in the 72nd minute and also was up to the task with a stunner in the 48th minute after coming off his line to stop a two-on-one situation.
Scoreless until well into the second half, Goodnetter started the first scoring play as well. His free kick service into the box found the head of senior Laurie Bell. Bell just missed the strike, hitting the post and clanging right to Stevenson, who finished for the 1-0 lead at the 57:55 mark.
The first half was played very evenly, with both teams finishing with three shots and one corner kick. Bell had two of the three Milwaukee attempts. Both were on target, but neither was able to find the back of the net.
The team was once again shorthanded, playing without regular starters Declan Rodriguez (red card), Nick Moon (yellow card accumulation) and Andy Chmielewski (injury).
Tonight's game will be available on a tape-delay basis on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, with the first broadcast at 7 p.m. Thursday. Up next, the Panthers head to Wright State Saturday for a 6 p.m. CST start.
